How well do you know us?
True facts you may (or may not) know about each of us!

Each of the band members were asked the following questions:

  • What is the very first instrument you ever played?
  • Where did you get it?
  • How long did you play it?

Photo taken about a year after I caught the bug to play again. This is one of my senior pictures. It is one of the earliest photos of me holding the guitar. Yes, that’s a “rat tail” back there. Lol.

WHO AM I?

  • What is the very first instrument you ever played?
    Guitar.
  • Where did you get it?
My older brother would get mad at me for knocking his guitar out of tune. I came home one day, dumped my books and searched the perimeter of the house looking for my bike. It was gone. Shortly after, my brother came in from work and as he stepped out of his truck he handed me a little cheap “Sears” style acoustic. I was so happy I forgot about the bike. We sat on our front porch that night and he taught me Johnny B Good! Later, he would admit to trading my bike for the guitar.
  • How long did you play it?
I’ve been playing ever since (on and off of course) through the years.

Excuse the faded jeans and turtle neck. I promise they were "in" then!

WHO AM I?

  • What is the very first instrument you ever played?
    Piano.
  • Where did you get it?
I grew up with a piano in the house. My older brother and sister were forced to take lessons because the parents thought it was a good developmental tool, but they didn’t enjoy it. By the time I was old enough and wanted guitar lessons, my folks said I had to take two years of piano first. I did it and continued to play.
  • How long did you play it?
I have a piano in my home in Memphis to this day. I feel it’s a great way to compose music all the way around. I wrote and played the guitar and the piano parts in “Constantly” off of our 3rd record [“Bringing Down the Giant”]. To this day, I’m proud of the interplay of the guitar and piano parts and how they weave around each other.

My stepfather and mother knew my interest was growing. I woke up one Christmas morning to my very own little child’s kit.

WHO AM I?

  • What is the very first instrument you ever played?
    Drums.
  • Where did you get it?
    Christmas morning late 1970’s.
  • How long did you play it?
Until I totally destroyed all the drumheads on it. A couple months.

My stepfather was a drummer/sessions player in Memphis for many years. He had recorded and toured with the likes of Jerry lee Lewis, and many more. I was around 5 years old when I was first introduced to a drum set. I remember it was shiny Black, BIG 1970’s Drums and cymbals. Massive!! My stepfather picked my up, sat me on the drum seat and handed me a pair of wooden sticks. I had never seen anything so awesome as this kit before. I remember being overwhelmed by the shininess of it all.

I remember watching him perform on stage many times growing up. My interest quickly grew for the instrument and would go on to become a passion. My stepfather and mother knew my interest was growing. I woke up one Christmas morning to my very own little child’s kit. I went on to enter music classes in school and such, etc.

WHO AM I?

  • What is the very first instrument you ever played?
I remember early I’m watching my grandfather play his banjo and harmonica. I grabbed both of those and played around. That’s the first memory of music I have. I was around age 5.
  • Where did you get it?
My mom's dad let me play around with it.
  • How long did you play it?
I never really stuck with it. I soon found the piano, then the guitar. I never thought I would be doing it for a living.

My mom's family all played around with music. I grew up in a Southern Baptist church so playing and singing old gospel hymns was the standard. We used to sit around and a bunch of the family would play. They'd ask me to sing. Some very good family times spent on my grandparent's back porch on the farm.

WHO AM I?

  • What is the very first instrument you ever played?
Started with tambourine then basic piano. My first real instrument was drums.
  • Where did you get it?
I played them in my family's gospel band when I was very young.
  • How long did you play it?
I moved to guitar during my teenage years. I studied drums initially at college but then changed to classical guitar performance. I guess I slowly worked my way from the back of the stage to the front.
